The development principles at datascope have been fine tuned to suite the software that we develop. We have structured a set of specific development methodologies and guidelines that all our software developers must adhere to. The developers are audited on this adherence on a quarterly basis.

These include the languages and technologies that are used and the way in which they are applied. All our new software is developed in C# .Net using Visual Studio 2008 with a SQL Server 2005 back end. Communication is done via .Net Web Services and E.Net. We have also developed our own e.net layer to speed up development around the Syspro e.net business objects.

Some of the more demanding solutions we have implemented LINQ to speed things up. All our source code and versioning is managed very carefully using Microsoft Visual Source Safe. We have also invested in an IBM ESX Server to manage all our Virtual Machines. Each client environment in replicated here onsite for testing and go-live simulation. All our software is documented both from a coding perspective, using DocumentX and from a user perspective using HelpStudio. These documents are included in the software packages in electronic format.

UTI PLC Goes Live With Bullet - Supply Chain Shipment Planning and Tracking Solution

UTI PLC (Production Logistics) collects automotive components from suppliers nationwide and delivers them to OEM’s. There was a need to provide a web based system which would provide total visibility of shipments throughout the supply chain for UTI, the OE’s and suppliers. This system would import ewaybills automatically, plan collections based on predefined time windows, monitor line haul deliveries to UTI depots and plan deliveries into OE’s. Datascope Consulting was asked to provide this system which is called BULLET.

Algoa Bus - Advanced Quotation Quick Entry System.

During 2007 Datascope consulting where commissioned to develop a specialist quotation system for the hiring of buses. The system was developed to effectively manage large volumes of quoting and the associated payment process (mainly in cash). The system is fully integrated into SYSPRO and creates the sales orders, processes the invoices and takes cash payments directly to the cash book. All documentation is printed from this system including the quotation, cash receipt, invoice and various bus scheduling reports. Actual pricing calculations are very dynamic allowing for fixed costs, kilometer rates, time rates and various other user defined rates. The system would work effectively for most high volume asset rental companies.

The Little Slipper Company - 100% SKU Picking Accuracy

The Little Slipper Company in Port Elizabeth provides top quality shoes to Woolworths. A random check on dispatched goods is made by a third party to ensure that the SKU’s match what was ordered by Woolworths. The audit results are available on a monthly basis and companies not complying with these stringent accuracy criteria are penalized financially. Datascope Consulting was asked to provide a picking scanning solution to enforce a 100% accurate pick of shoes based on the orders from Woolworths.
