Lumotech goes live with DATASCOPE WMS Lumotech (Pty) Ltd, a major supplier of automotive lighting to the South African OEM and aftermarket industries has selected and implemented the first of two phases of DATASCOPE WMS.
Over the past 10 years Lumotech have invested in advanced injection moulding and assembly techniques to further streamline manufacturing operations. One of the systems implemented during this time is a full Kanban card system for all components, both in stores and in WIP.
DATASCOPE worked with Lumotech to develop a new module for our standard WMS product to RFID tag each Kanban card. In phase 1 we implemented our solution into all warehouses using typical RF barcode scanning and implemented the RFID Kanban solution for all finished goods assembly products.
Each of the ten assembly lines now has a RFID reader mounted at the pack off point. As Kanban bins are filled with product, the operator scans a RFID Kanban card which automatically processes a back flush for the Kanban quantity in SYSPRO. The Kanban card now becomes the pallet ID (TrackID) and is moved and picked via RF scanners as is the typical case in the DATASCOPE’s WMS product.
The solution was implemented in a total of 10 weeks. During the month of January we hit an issue where SYSPRO’s journal numbers run out due to the huge volume of inventory transactions, particularly bin transfers. We have since made a change to WMS to automatically open a daily inventory journal for bin transfers. This has alleviated the problem.
With phase 1 implemented Lumotech will commence with phase two – implementation of RFID into all WIP operations – in April or May 2012
“Since implementing DATASCOPE WMS into Lumotech we have identified a number of problematic areas in our logistics flows. The new software has helped us to identify these and to correct them. Probably the best aspect of WMS is the detailed history of every transaction. We can now see exactly who did transactions and when, from a point of traceability this is excellent. We are very pleased with our selection of the software and look forward to implementing the system into our WIP areas.” – Alan Le Roux, Logistics Manager
Freeworld Automotive Coatings selects DATASCOPE WMS.
Freeworld Automotive Coatings (“Freeworld”), Southern Africa’s leading manufacturer and marketer of high quality automotive coatings systems, has taken the wise decision of selecting DATASCOPE WMS to take their business into the future. The company’s manufacturing facility is based in Port Elizabeth, while marketing and sales offices are located throughout South Africa’s major financial centres of Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
For over 60-years Freeworld has produced and supplied product to the after-market refinish segment and local Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) including BMW, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen. We are currently implementing a WMS into Freeworld’s distribution facility in Alberton, Johannesburg and went “live” at the end of August a mere seven weeks from the commencement of the implementation.
Stock take and go-live took place on the 1st of September, while project sign off occurred two weeks thereafter.
DATASCOPE WMS was selected over competing providers due to their sound understanding of the inherent integration required into Freeworld’s ERP system (SYSPRO). Reliable batch /lot control was another prerequisite upon which WMS was able to deliver.
A close working relationship has been formed with Freeworld’s WMS steering committee and we look forward to assist Freeworld in taking the necessary steps internally to further improve control of their warehousing.
“Thank you very much Amy and Javan for the professional and expert manner in which you have handled the Freeworld project. Javan, it has been a pleasure working with a project manager that really manages his projects effectively” Yolande Buys – Business Process Manager.
