African Sales Company (ASCO) is the leading distributor in Southern Africa of fine fragrances and related cosmetics in selective distribution. The Head Office and DC are located in Sandton, with Regional Sales offices in Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Namibia and Gaborone.
ASCO’s core competence requirement for DATASCOPE's WMS was efficient receipt, storage and delivery of goods to their retail partners which include Edgars, Truworths, Stuttafords, Perfumeries, Red Squares, Foschini / Markham, Woolworths and leading Pharmacies.
ASCO had been struggling with an unstable bar- coding implementation. Due to DATASCOPE long term relationship with ASCO, DATASCOPE was called in and given a tight 12 week period to implement WMS. The action kicked off with the approval of the final Functional Specification document in the middle of February 2010 and the first pick was completed on 28 April 2010. We had achieved success in 42 working days!
The ASCO implementation was rigidly project managed. Risks, delays and problems were highlighted and resolved as soon as they were known to ensure minimal disruption to the overall project timeline. The lengthy action list included warehouse relabeling, stock labelling, and configuration of system and warehouse settings, two full stock counts on numerous warehouses (both on-site and off-site warehouses).
Among many other modules, ASCO made use of WMS’s Landed Cost Tracking, Pickface and Offsite stock replenishment, Cycle Counting and Checkout Audit modules. The fit for their business was soon realized, and DATASCOPE received very high accolades from ASCO’s CEO.
The staff at African Sales Company embraced the new software and remarked on its user friendly interfaces and logical process driven transactions. This is indeed a tremendous success story which the 2010 catchphrase could aptly describe as “Ayoba!”Read African Sales Company's Reference Letter
Due to strong growth over the years, The Prestige Cosmetics Group (PCG) outgrew their warehouse capacity in Blackriver Park. PCG, which is owned by the CAVI Brands Group, is the importer of fine fragrances and include brands like, Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermes and others, dealing with Retail Partners such as Edgars, Woolworths, Stuttafords, Foschini and Truworths.
DATASCOPE has had a long business partnership with PCG. PCG has been running an early version of DATASCOPE’s warehouse management system for over nine years. DATASCOPE assisted PCG in finding new warehousing premises within the existing Blackriver Park complex. The close proximity assisted with the movement of stock from the old to the new warehouse.
This move and WMS upgrade was quite complex as all stock had to be labelled in the old warehouse, then moved, new racking installed, pickfaces set-up for all SKU’s, stock put away into bulk, replenishment of stock into dedicated pickfaces, etc. Another complexity was that PCG and PCD (Chanel) are two different SYSPRO companies and therefore the DATASCOPE WMS install had to be set-up twice.
Once the move was complete a full stock take was completed in the new warehouse and the WMS went live. Staff were trained in all functional areas including LCT and purchase order receipts, incoming EDI orders, pickslip releasing for sales orders, picking, mass based checkout, replenishment, management reports, etc.
Two new functional modules were added to DATASCOPE WMS. These were tote consolidated picking per customer and integration into third party logistics provider which use ParcelPerfect to manage their waybills.
Although PCG has challenges meeting their volumes going into their peak period, their top pickers are consistently scanner picking over 1000 units per picker per day. (One SKU picked every 2 minutes over an 8 hour shift).
As Hercus Greyling (COO), puts it; “It is all about elegant execution.”
DATASCOPE looks forward to further assisting PCG in taking their business to the next competitive level. Their warehouse has spare capacity and therefore excellent growth potential.Read Prestige Cosmetic's Reference Letter
